Forget fireworks and smoke machines, Besa Kokëdhima, or just Besa as her fans know her, is bringing a different kind of heat to Eurovision 2024. This Albanian songstress isn’t here to overpower, she’s here to hypnotize with her smooth vocals and effortlessly cool vibes.
Hailing from Fier, Albania, her musical journey started young. Her music effortlessly mixes pop, electronica, and even a touch of R&B, creating a sound that’s as catchy as it is chill. Back home, she is known for her infectious hooks and stage presence that’s more captivating than chaotic. Think less flashy dance moves, more soulful swaying and electrifying vocals that leave audiences mesmerized. But Besa’s more than just a pretty voice. This multi-talented artist is a champion for animal rights, social justice, and equality, making her a role model with a fan base as diverse as her music.
At just 17, Besa released her debut song, “Më Beso,” showcasing her talent early on. Fast forward a few years, and she’s already a household name in Albania, with a coveted win at the prestigious Kënga Magjike competition under her belt. But her ambitions extended beyond her home country. Back in Albania, she continued to impress, releasing hit singles, acclaimed albums like “Ti Je Festa Ime,” and even becoming a judge on the Albanian version of “The Voice.”
Here’s a cool fact: her father, Koco Kokedhima, is a successful businessman and politician. Maybe that business savvy rubbed off on Besa, because in 2009, she even tried her luck at representing Romania (not Albania!) in Eurovision. Talk about strategic career moves!
Finally, in 2023, Besa’s Eurovision dream came true. She won the Albania’s national competition, Festivali i Këngës. There, she stole the show with the original song “Zemrën n’dorë” (“Heart in Hand”). While it captivated Albanian audiences, for Eurovision, she is taking things international. The song’s been reborn as “Titan,” sung entirely in English (hopefully some parts will be in Albanian in May?!) and showcasing the fierceness beneath Besa’s chill exterior.
“Titan” is easily one of the nicest songs this year, in my humble opinion! Besa’s voice is smooth as butter, and the whole vibe is just incredible. If there’s any justice in the world, she absolutely should qualify to the final. Come on, Eurovision gods, make it happen!” – Omar
