‘Das Deutsche Finale 2024’: Germany’s National Selection

German broadcaster NDR has announced the details of their national selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. The competition, called “Das Deutsche Finale 2024”, will consist of only one show, which will be held on February 16, 2024. The show will be broadcast on Das Erste, eurovision.de and ARD Mediathek, live from Berlin. The winner of “Das Deutsche Finale 2024” will represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö, Sweden.

The submission period for songs is open from Thursday 7 September until Thursday 5 October. The songs must be original and must not have been released before September 1, 2023, as usual for any song participating at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. Although using eurovision.de for the application is mandatory, artists can also choose, like last year, to willingly showcase your application to the community on TikTok by utilizing the hashtag #EurovisionGermany2024.

Germany’s most prosperous decade in the Eurovision Contest occurred during the 1980s, marked by six top 5 finishes and a victory when Nicole claimed the crown in Harrogate 1982 with her song “Ein bißchen Frieden.” In 2010, Lena added another triumph to Germany’s collection with her winning entry, “Satellite.”

Representing Germany in Liverpool was the rock group Lord of the Lost, comprising five talented members hailing from Hamburg St. Pauli: vocalist Chris Harms, guitarist Pi Stoffers, bassist Klaas Helmecke, multi-instrumentalist Gared Dirge, and drummer Niklas Kahl. Despite landing at the bottom of the scoreboard once the votes were tallied, Lord of the Lost continues to bask in significant success, boasting an international fanbase and an impressive lineup of concerts and festivals on their schedule.
