Croatia to Compete in Eurovision 2024 via Dora Selection

The Croatian national broadcaster, HRT, has officially announced Croatia’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. Alongside this exciting news, HRT has outlined the details of their selection process, opting to use the beloved competition, Dora, to determine Croatia’s entry.

Starting from today, artists and songwriters can submit their entries for consideration, with the submission window open until November 30. There are specific criteria that entrants must adhere to:

  1. Entries must not have been previously released or performed publicly.
  2. If the composer and lyricist are different individuals, the lyricist’s consent is required for the song’s usage.
  3. Performers must be a minimum of 16 years old at the time of application, and those under 18 need to provide written authorization from their legal guardian.
  4. All performers must hold Croatian citizenship.
  5. Song durations must not exceed 3 minutes.
  6. Applications should be submitted through the HRT website.
  7. Songs may be performed in either Croatian or any other European language.

For further details and access to the application form and rules, they can be found on the HRT website. A panel of experienced judges will carefully evaluate the submitted entries, selecting up to 28 songs for the live final. Additionally, four reserve songs will be chosen as backups in case any of the initially selected songs cannot participate. The announcement of the participating artists and songs will be made in early December.

By January 10, 2024, HRT will decide on the format of Dora 2024, whether it will comprise multiple rounds or remain as a single show. It’s worth noting that since its revival in 2019, Dora has typically featured just one show. Dora 2024 is scheduled to take place in February 2024.

In the previous edition of Eurovision, Croatia was represented by Let 3 with their song “Mama ŠČ!” in Liverpool. This performance marked Croatia’s return to the Eurovision final for the first time since 2017, finishing 13th with a total of 123 points.
