Lithuania’s National Selection Undergoes a Name Change for Eurovision 2024

Lithuania is set to embark on an exciting quest to discover its representative for the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest with the launch of “EUROVIZIJA.LT,” a brand-new national selection process. The Lithuanian national broadcaster, LRT, has officially unveiled this platform to determine the artist who will carry Lithuania’s flag on the grand Eurovision stage. This marks a shift from the previous selection mechanism, “Pabandom iš naujo!,” which had been the channel for choosing Lithuania’s Eurovision entrant since 2020.

The process is already underway, with LRT currently accepting submissions from prospective participants. Artists have the opportunity to submit their entries until December 11, 2023. From this pool of entrants, LRT will meticulously select a minimum of 20 artists to compete in the “EUROVIZIJA.LT” competition. The entire process will encompass a series of semi-finals, expected to be around “four or five,” culminating in an exhilarating grand finale. This grand climax will be where Lithuania’s representative for Eurovision 2024 in Malmö, Sweden, will be unveiled.

While the finer details, such as the exact dates of the shows, are yet to be confirmed, the structure of “EUROVIZIJA.LT” promises to be an exciting and highly competitive platform for emerging talents in Lithuania.

What’s particularly fascinating about “EUROVIZIJA.LT” is that it adheres to the standard Eurovision 50/50 voting model. Following each show, viewers will be granted the privilege to cast their votes in favor of their preferred song, and the outcome will be determined in accordance with the Eurovision voting system. The top-rated act will secure 12 points, followed by 10 points for the runner-up, and so on.

Enhancing the selection process is the involvement of a Commission, who will also play a role in awarding points to each performance, following the same point distribution system. The artist and song that amass the most points through the combined evaluations of both the public and the Commission during the Grand Final will earn the prestigious right to represent Lithuania at Eurovision 2024.

Lithuania has an illustrious Eurovision history, even though the country has yet to clinch a victory since its debut in 1994. Their highest ranking came in 2006 when they secured an impressive 6th place. Nevertheless, Lithuania has enjoyed a resurgence of success in recent years, notably achieving Grand Final qualifications for three consecutive years since 2021, all with songs that triumphed in “Pabandom iš naujo!”

In the most recent edition of the Eurovision contest, hosted in Liverpool, United Kingdom, Monika Linkytė represented Lithuania with the heartfelt ballad “Stay.” Her remarkable performance secured an 11th place in the final, amassing a total of 127 points. Lithuania’s journey through Eurovision continues to captivate hearts and inspire optimistic anticipation for a future Eurovision victory.
