Melodi Grand Prix 2024: Norway’s Journey to Eurovision

Get ready for the musical spectacle! The Grand Final of Melodi Grand Prix (MGP), Norway’s renowned national selection, is set to dazzle your screens on February 3, 2024.

Stig Karlsen, Norway’s Head of Delegation, made this exciting announcement during an OGAE Norway gathering, sharing details that have Eurovision fans buzzing with anticipation.

MGP 2024 will be a thrilling ride, featuring not only the grand finale but also three spectacular semi-finals starting on January 13. Each semi-final will showcase six songs, adding up to an impressive lineup of 18 entries battling it out for the honor of representing Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden.

Mark your calendars for January 5, the date when the competing songs and the talented artists behind them will be unveiled at a public event. But the excitement doesn’t stop there; more surprises await. The venues for this year’s Melodi Grand Prix shows and the identities of the presenters are still shrouded in mystery, with Karlsen promising an unexpected hosting duo.

As if that weren’t enough, there’s a changing of the guard in the choreography department. After a remarkable stint by Mattias Carlsson from 2008, Mona Berntsen is stepping in as the new stage director for MGP. Berntsen, known for winning the Scandinavian edition of “So You Think You Can Dance?” and gracing the stage as a backing dancer during Madonna’s 2019 Eurovision performance, is sure to bring a fresh artistic perspective.

The stakes are high; the winner of MGP 2024 will earn the privilege to carry Norway’s flag at Eurovision 2024. Last year’s champion, Alessandra, triumphed with the electrifying “Queen of Kings,” ultimately securing 5th place at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool, United Kingdom, with a remarkable 268 points.

Stay tuned for an unforgettable journey through music, as Norway seeks its next Eurovision sensation in Malmö!
