🇱🇻 Meet Dons: Taking Over Eurovision 2024

Forget the sparkly dresses and wind machines, Eurovision 2024 got a whole lot more intriguing with the arrival of Dons. Now, hold your horses, “mafia Dons” fans – this contender’s got soul, not shotguns.

Arturs Šingirejs, better known as Dons, is a Latvian music legend. Launched on reality TV, he’s released eight albums, primarily in Latvian. Representing Latvia at Eurovision has been a long-held dream. After twice finishing second, he finally won the national contest in 2024 with the powerful ballad “Hollow.”

Dons’ musical journey has been one of evolution. His debut album leaned towards English rock, but he found deeper meaning singing in Latvian. The 2014 album “Varanasi,” inspired by a journey across Russia, explored themes of self-discovery. The song “Tev Piedzims Bērns” (A Child Is Born You) won him Song of the Year.

The late 2010s and early 2020s saw Dons dominate the Latvian music scene. Albums like “Tepat” (Here) produced chart-topping hits like the title track and “Es Nāktu Mājās” (I Would Come Home). He racked up accolades, including eight Top Radio Hit wins and a staggering five Latvian Music Recording Awards’ Song of the Year honors.

In 2021, Dons reached another milestone, signing with Universal Music. Critically acclaimed singles like “Tas rakstīts debesīs (Piena ceļš)” (It’s Written in the Heavens (Milky Way)) and “Tavs pieskāriens” (Your Touch) followed.

Dons’ talent extends beyond music. He’s a skilled actor, having played the lead role in the rock opera Lāčplēsis. He’s also a judge on the music competition show Paaudžu Duelis (Duel of Generations).

Dons’ dedication to his craft, his willingness to adapt, and his deep connection with his audience have cemented his status as a true Latvian icon. With his upcoming Eurovision performance, he’s ready to share his talent with the global stage.
