The competition, held on the evening of Friday, January 26, featured six songs vying to represent Ireland in Malmö. The format included a public vote, a national jury vote, and an international jury vote, providing a comprehensive evaluation of the entries. Following intense deliberations, Bambie Thug emerged as the clear winner, set to carry Ireland’s musical spirit to the Eurovision stage in May.

Cork-born Bambie Thug is not just an artist; they’re a force of nature in the music scene. A completely independent artist, they have garnered over 45,000 monthly listeners with their unique, self-styled ‘Ouija Pop.’ Known for delivering incredible live performances, Bambie recently showcased their talents at the packed-out Download Festival Debut.

Their compositions have amassed a staggering 60 million streams, written for various artists across genres such as Cassyette, Kidbrunswick, Fabich, Fika, and more. Additionally, their instrumentals have contributed to some of the UK’s biggest nu-gen hits, including ‘Dear Goth,’ ‘Petrichor,’ and ‘4am.’ Notably, their work has even found a place in HBO’s Sex And The City reboot, ‘Just Like That.’

The winning song, ‘Doomsday Blue,’ resonated with both the public and the national jury, securing top marks from both. This dual endorsement gave Bambie Thug a comfortable lead and a clear path to victory in Ireland.
