Eurovision 2025: Host City Announcement on August 30

The countdown is on for Eurovision fans as Switzerland prepares to announce the host city for the 2025 contest. The Swiss broadcaster, SRG SSR, has confirmed that the eagerly anticipated reveal will take place on August 30.

After a rigorous selection process involving multiple cities, the final two contenders – Basel and Geneva – remain in the running to host the prestigious music competition. The decision to shortlist these two vibrant cities was made following a thorough evaluation of bids by a committee overseen by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Basel, a city renowned for its cultural heritage and strategic location at the heart of Europe, has proposed utilizing the Saint Jakob area as the Eurovision venue. With the Saint Jakobshalle and Saint Jakob Park stadium as potential options, the city is confident in its ability to deliver a world-class event. The local government is emphasizing Basel’s strong track record in hosting major international events, such as the OSCE Ministerial Council Conference and the UEFA EURO 2008, as key factors in its bid.

Geneva, Switzerland’s cosmopolitan hub, has joined forces with the canton to present a compelling proposal centered around the Palexpo convention center. The city has pledged a substantial financial investment of 30 million Swiss francs to support the organization of Eurovision 2025, highlighting the long-term benefits the contest could bring to the region. Geneva’s bid emphasizes the city’s international character, reputation for tolerance, and its role as a symbol of peace and understanding between nations.

The choice of host city is a crucial decision that will shape the overall experience for artists, delegates, and fans alike. Both Basel and Geneva offer unique advantages and have showcased their commitment to hosting a memorable Eurovision Song Contest. As the announcement date draws nearer, excitement and anticipation continue to build among Eurovision enthusiasts worldwide.

Switzerland’s victory at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, with Nemo’s “The Code,” secured the country’s hosting rights for the 2025 edition. This marks the first time Switzerland has hosted the contest since 1988, adding an extra layer of anticipation to the upcoming event.

With less than a month to go until the host city is revealed, the Eurovision community eagerly awaits the announcement that will set the stage for what promises to be a spectacular celebration of music and diversity.
