Miriana Conte, Malta’s representative for Eurovision 2025, has confirmed that the European Broadcasting Union has approved the lyrics for her entry, “Kant.” This news comes after speculation arose due to the song’s title, which, while meaning “singing” in Maltese, bears resemblance to an English expletive. Concerns about a potential ban have now been laid to rest.
Conte revealed on TVM+’s Ras Imb Ras program that while the core of “Kant,” including its catchy chorus where she proclaims she is “serving Kant,” will remain untouched, the song is undergoing a revamp before the contest in Basel, Switzerland. She clarified that any lyric adjustments would be minor and wouldn’t significantly alter the song’s essence. “The EBU accepted that the song remains the same, so it shouldn’t be a problem,” Conte stated. “The song will obviously be revamped, but it won’t change, it’ll stay the same.”
“Kant” secured Conte’s victory at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2025, where she garnered a total of 182 points. Performing first in the final, she received 88 points from the juries and a winning 94 points from the public vote. Although she placed second with the juries behind Kristy Spiteri’s “Heaven Sent,” her public vote win propelled her to overall victory by a narrow eight-point margin.
Conte will represent Malta in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest on May 15th.
