Slovenia’s path to selecting its representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 is evolving, with RTVSLO, the Slovene national broadcaster, unveiling “Misija Malmö” (Mission Malmö) as the national final to determine the country’s Eurovision entry. This represents a shift away from the internal selection process used in the previous year.
The call for submissions is now open, welcoming aspiring artists and composers with aspirations of representing Slovenia at Eurovision 2024. The submission window will remain accessible until the stroke of midnight on November 15. Every entry will undergo a meticulous evaluation process by two distinguished committees: one comprising Slovene experts and the other a panel of international talents. Additionally, RTVSLO has extended direct invitations to certain composers to submit their entries.
Following this rigorous selection phase, the two committees will handpick up to four entries that will earn the prestigious opportunity to participate in “Misija Malmö.” The final list of finalists is expected to be unveiled no later than December 11, with the ultimate showdown scheduled for January 2024. This adds an exciting layer of anticipation as the new year dawns.
The return to a national final for Eurovision 2024 signifies a reconnection with tradition for Slovenia. Historically, the majority of their Eurovision representatives were chosen through national finals, with only a few exceptions, such as 2013 and 2023, when internal selection processes were employed.
In the most recent Eurovision edition, Joker Out had the privilege of representing Slovenia. They became the second Slovene act to be internally chosen for Eurovision. Their journey commenced in the second semi-final, delivering a compelling performance that secured a spot in the Grand Final with 103 televote points. In the Grand Final, they performed 24th and secured a commendable 21st place with a combined score of 78 points, which included 45 public points and 33 jury points.
With “Misija Malmö” on the horizon, the Eurovision journey for Slovenia in 2024 promises to be a captivating and thrilling spectacle. Enthusiastic fans eagerly await the announcement of the next Slovene star who will grace the Eurovision stage in Malmö, Sweden.
