Greece’s Eurovision 2024 Participation Confirmed by ERT

ERT, the Greek broadcasting authority, has officially informed the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) of Greece participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, set to be hosted in Malmö, Sweden.

As of the September 15 deadline, ERT has diligently submitted all the required documentation to secure its place in the competition. This date marks the final opportunity for broadcasting entities to express their commitment to participating in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Despite this decisive step, ERT has yet to make any formal public declarations regarding its strategy for Eurovision 2024. Nonetheless, reports from Greece suggest a potential departure from their recent practices since 2017, with discussions of ERT possibly organizing a national final to select their representative.

Notably, earlier in the summer, ERT voiced concerns to the EBU about Cyprus producing “Fame Story,” their intended national final, within Greek territory. In response, the EBU amended the contest regulations, thereby barring Cyprus from pursuing this approach. Consequently, Cyprus has opted for an internal selection process to determine their participating artist.

Recalling the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 held in Liverpool, United Kingdom, Greece participation was represented by the exceptionally young Victor Vernicos, at just sixteen years of age. His entry, “What They Say,” marked him as the youngest contestant in this year’s competition and in Greek history. Regrettably, his performance did not secure a spot in the Grand Final, concluding in 13th place during the semi-finals with a total of 14 points.
