Latvian Television (LTV) has officially announced the upcoming “Supernova 2024” song contest and released the regulations governing the application process. This annual competition has been a platform for discovering and promoting talented artists from Latvia and has even led to representation at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Here’s a brief summary of the key points from the regulations:
Who Can Participate:
- Performers: Participants must be at least 16 years old and either Latvian citizens or Latvian non-citizens with a permanent residence in Latvia. They can be soloists, duets, or groups of up to 6 people.
- Authors: Authors must also be at least 16 years old by December 1, 2023.
- Foreign citizens may participate as song lyricists, music composers, and/or phonogram producers, with a maximum contribution of 33.33%.
Song Requirements:
- Songs must be original works created by the Authors, Performers, or arrangement authors.
- The maximum duration of a song is 3 minutes.
- Songs should not have been publicly released or performed before September 1, 2023.
- Contestants must submit a statement specifying the distribution of copyright and related rights in the song.
Application Process:
- Applications will be accepted from September 12, 2023, to December 1, 2023, on the “Supernova 2024” project’s website.
- Applicants must provide four high-resolution photos as part of their application.
- Submitted photos may be used for marketing and communication purposes related to “Supernova 2024.”
Judging Criteria:
- A jury selected by LTV will evaluate song submissions based on criteria including originality, arrangement, message, market relevance, vocal abilities of the Performer, and potential for international competition success.
Prizes:
- The winner of “Supernova 2024” will have the opportunity to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
- If the winner does not sign a cooperation agreement for international competition participation within two working days after the “Supernova 2024” final, LTV reserves the right to enter into agreements with other top contestants.
The final of “Supernova 2024” is scheduled for February 2024, and the exact process for determining the winner will be disclosed in January 2024.
