Slovenia Confirms Participation in Eurovision 2025

RTV Slovenija has officially confirmed its participation in the 69th Eurovision Song Contest, set to take place in Basel, Switzerland, in May 2025. This comes as the deadline for countries to register for the competition passed, with 29 national broadcasters already confirming their involvement. While this number is expected to grow, Slovenia is among the first to announce its entry.

National Selection Planned for Early 2025

RTV Slovenija’s entertainment program has stated that the national selection process to choose the song representing Slovenia will take place in early 2025. However, the specific format and rules for this selection remain undisclosed at this time. These details will be made public in October, when RTV Slovenija will release guidelines for authors, composers, and performers interested in participating.

“RTV Slovenija will announce the method of selection for the Slovenian representative in October 2024, including the rules for participation and the process for choosing the winning song,” a representative from RTV Slovenija confirmed. Aspiring participants will be able to find all necessary information on the broadcaster’s website at that time.

Challenges for Some Nations, Including the Netherlands

While most participating countries have already confirmed their entries, not all have had a smooth road. The Dutch broadcaster Avrotros, for instance, faced controversy earlier in the year when their 2024 contestant, Joost Klein, was disqualified just before the finals due to an incident involving a production team member. As a result, the Netherlands has requested an extension of the submission deadline, which the European Broadcasting Union has granted until November 1.

Similarly, Romania remains uncertain about its participation, adding to the anticipation as the final list of countries is still being finalized.

Countries Skipping Eurovision 2025

As with previous years, some countries have opted out of the 2025 edition of the competition. It has already been confirmed that Andorra, Russia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Slovakia will not be participating in Basel next year.

Eurovision 2025 Set for May in Basel

The 69th Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Basel, Switzerland, from May 13 to May 17, 2025. Fans and participants alike are eager to see what the next edition of the iconic competition will bring, with national selections, including Slovenia’s, expected to generate significant excitement in the coming months.
