Stage revealed for Eurovision Song Contest 2024

The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 is set to captivate audiences with an extraordinary stage and lighting design, as unveiled by Sweden’s broadcaster SVT. The Malmö Arena will be the epicenter of this visual extravaganza, where a unique concept promises to elevate the Eurovision experience to unprecedented heights.

At the helm of this groundbreaking design are Florian Wieder, Production Designer, and Fredrik Stormby, Light and Screen Content Designer. The duo’s vision includes movable LED cubes, LED floors, and cutting-edge stage technology that will combine to create a dazzling array of visuals within the arena. What sets this stage apart is its placement right in the middle of the audience, shaped like a cross, providing a 360-degree experience for both the live audience and television viewers.

Ebba Adielsson, Executive Producer, expressed her pride in presenting this innovative stage and lighting design, emphasizing that Eurovision has never witnessed anything quite like it before. The concept, she believes, opens up endless possibilities for creating unique spaces and expressions for the competing artists, as well as for the opening and interval acts.

Florian Wieder, known for his work with global music icons such as Beyoncé, Adele, and U2, expressed his delight at being part of the Eurovision family again. He emphasized the collaborative effort of a dream team of professionals, united by a shared vision to take Eurovision to the next level. Wieder sees Sweden as a guarantor of good music and entertainment, underlining the nation’s role in fostering creativity.

Fredrik Stormby echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the unexpected and updated concept that they’ve developed for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. He expressed honor in being commissioned to design the light and video components and looks forward to the continued collaboration with the production team and delegations involved in the project.

The audience takes center stage more than ever before in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, with the stage placed centrally and surrounded by the spectators. The design features a monumental installation of video and light above the stage, crafted to embrace the artists and their performances. This emphasis on audience engagement aims to create a visually revolutionary concept that brings the live and TV audiences closer to the performances.

As the Eurovision journey progresses toward Malmö, the next significant date is the Semi-Final Draw on January 30, 2023, at 19:00 CET.

Florian Wieder, based in Los Angeles and Munich, boasts an impressive career spanning three decades, having designed creative concepts for large-scale shows, concerts, and ceremonies worldwide. Fredrik Stormby, with nearly 25 years of experience, has contributed his expertise to a range of projects, including ABBA Voyage and previous Eurovision editions. His holistic approach to production design integrates lighting, video, and set design elements seamlessly.

With the promise of a visually revolutionary stage, Eurovision Song Contest 2024 is poised to deliver a one-of-a-kind spectacle in Malmö, Sweden, on May 7 (First Semi-Final), May 9 (Second Semi-Final), and May 11 (Grand Final) of 2024. Music enthusiasts and Eurovision fans can anticipate an immersive experience that pushes the boundaries of creativity and entertainment.
