Hey Eurovision fans! It’s Omar and Sahand from The EuroHub, your one-stop shop for all things Eurovision!

National selections are heating up, and the rumor mill is buzzing like a winning douze points announcement. Today, we set our sights on Cyprus’ entry, the electrifying dance-pop anthem “Liar” by the powerhouse vocalist Silia. She will open Semi Final 1 on May 9.

Will “Liar” become Cyprus’ winning formula or get lost in the crowd? Buckle up, Eurovision detectives! Omar, our resident contest veteran since the iconic “Dime” by Beth in 2003, and Sahand, our Eurovision inclusivity champion, are ready to dissect the infectious beat, analyze the lyrics, and speculate on the potential for a showstopping performance.

Join us as we dive into the reviews of “Liar” and uncover the truth behind this electrifying entry. Will Silia’s stage presence set the competition ablaze, or will the song’s simplicity leave audiences wanting more? Let the investigation begin!

Omar:

Cyprus has been stuck on repeat with the “Fuego” formula for years, and sadly, “Liar” is just another failed attempt to recapture that lightning in a bottle. This song is so limp, it barely qualifies as a toe-tapper. And don’t even get me started on the budget-basement music video – it looks like they spent their entire Eurovision allowance on a bag of chips! Now, Silia herself has the potential to be a dark horse. The song isn’t terrible, but that chorus? It’s about as exciting as watching paint dry. Repeating “Liar” three times doesn’t exactly make for award-winning music.

Here’s my take: Cyprus desperately needs to move on from “Fuego.” “Liar” is a pale imitation and lacks the spark of the original. The song itself is forgettable. The chorus is a total snoozefest, bordering on offensive with its lazy repetition. Silia is a talented singer, but even she can’t save this uninspired track. Cyprus could still surprise us, but they’ll need a much stronger song and a more captivating performance to make a real impact.

Overall, “Liar” is a disappointment. It’s a derivative song with a weak chorus and a low-budget music video. I’ll be shocked if this one makes it far in Eurovision.

Score: 5,5/10

Sahand:

“Wakin’ up in the mornin’, and I’m, I’m feelin’ like ooh-la-la. It’s about to go down ’cause I found out the truth, la-la”. While the lyrics to Silia’s Eurovision entry “Liar” are simplistic and borderline cringeworthy, hindering the song’s potential, the music itself is a different story. The dance-pop production is top-notch, with a groovy beat, an engaging build-up, and a surprising dance break that complements Silia’s moves in the music video. However, therein lies the challenge: the song itself doesn’t scream “made for the Eurovision stage.” This disconnect creates a hurdle that Silia’s performance will need to overcome. With strong competition, qualification seems unlikely. A revamp could save the song, but as it stands, “La La” may end its journey in the semi-final.

In short, it seems like a raw version of a song with wasted potential. It needs a lyrical miracle or a showstopping performance to stand out in a crowded Eurovision field. Mediocrity is Cyprus’ credo this year.
